The poem Belfast Confetti describes the fighting going on between protesters and police in Northern Ireland, i know it is in Northern Ireland as Belfast is in Northern Ireland. The poem starts with the word “suddenly” i think it is a good way to start a poem like this as by using the word suddenly it tells the reader that something is about to happen. The word suddenly is also telling the reader that the poem is starting in the middle of something, as the poem starts by saying “Suddenly as the riot squad moves in” this must show something big has happened before for the riot squad to be moving in as the first line of the poem, this might confuse the reader as they wouldn’t know what is going on but it will make the reader want to read on and want to know what has happened. Going on to the stanzas, the stanzas are structured in weird ways as a long stanza is followed up by a short one and sometimes the stanza is only one word. The word confetti might confuse the reader as confetti is normally used at parties etc. but here in the confetti it has nuts, bolts, nails, car-keys and the protesters might be throwing it as the police to make the confetti. Confetti goes up then comes back down and so do bombs and in Northern Ireland they used to use bombs so i think that bombs were used in this piece of conflict.
