Satire

6 am:  the caretaker opens the gates to The London Nautical School – the school that every kid wants to go to. This is the  school that every Year 11 gets A* in. The school that every student loves every minute, from Year 7 all the way to Year 11. Where in fact only 62% got A*-C and they got outclassed by…. La Retraite. Which got a whole 21% more A*-C than London Nautical School. Don’t know why they even bother. Obviously, with good financial backing and with great facilities, next year they will surely beat…. La Retraite. 6:45:  the gym lads and the over sized basketball players pile through reception to go get changed and do what they love to do. They show focus, stamina and  determination, unlike the football team who have players like De-Quane Garba running late to a cup final because he went home to eat food. A little later, around 8:00, the teachers that actually care come into school, unlike the hypocritical teachers that give the students detentions for being late , even though they are at school either a minute earlier or the same time as them.

At around 8:20 the new Year 7’s arrive. They want to make a good impression to the teachers. They are waving goodbye to their parents, who think the teachers are good with the new kids, even though they do not know that later on in the school day their son will probably be screamed at by the always-perfect teachers. Following them the rest of the school come in – well I say come in: they all get stopped at the school gate to make sure their uniform is perfect like the teachers who always have their top button done up. They line up to fix their uniform like the line at PC World on Boxing Day. After them come the kids who are late by about 30 seconds but that 30 seconds turns into a 30 minute detention. These are the kids that are always the ones with the same excuse: ‘I was in the toilet’ or ‘There was a lot of traffic’.

After all the students are in and locked inside the school, they go to registration which is always fun. Then  period 1 starts, which is usually the longest as you normally have a fun lesson like science, in which on induction day for Year 7’s they get to play with fire and Bunsen burners but as soon as they start school they never see a sight of one. A textbook is lumped at you:  the teacher gives you page 137 and questions 1-12 to do while he or she sits on their phone watching YouTube. Then after 2 periods you get to go out for break for a whole 20 minutes. Well they say 20 minutes, but it’s actually like 10. They let you out like 5 minutes late so you can tidy up THEIR class and then they end it 5 minutes early so the students can get to their lessons.

They go back to another two periods of fun and joy. After them the students get to go out for lunch at 13:00 – well, unless you don’t get a detention for being about 30 seconds late or for laughing in your class where you can’t stop yourself from laughing. So if you do get a detention you get let out at 13:30, then have 5-10 minutes of lunch as the teachers make you go inside to get to class so you’re not late. When the kids with detentions do finally get let out they sprint to the lunch hall to find out that the lovely chicken and chips have been finished, so they have to buy a small grimy sandwich for nearly £2 which will never fill you up if you manage to eat it in time before the lunch staff kick you out.

15:30…. The pips go off.

Flag- Analysis

The structure of the poem is very well done, it has three lines per stanza. The structure is like this as the poem shows patriotism. Also each stanza has a question and an answer, their are two people speaking in this poem, one that is asking the questions and the other one is answering the questions. In the start of each stanza it has a verb, the verbs are: fluttering, unfurling, rising, flying. This shows the reader the movement of the flag from the first stanza. The movement of the flag shows that it is getting more significant each stanza, this shows me that the flag is growing in power as the poem goes by. John Agard repeating the phrase “its just a piece of cloth” shows me that a piece of cloth is more significant than an actual flag. Each stanza ends that gives an image to the readers of patriotism.

Belfast Confetti- Analysis

The poem Belfast Confetti describes the fighting going on between protesters and police in Northern Ireland, i know it is in Northern Ireland as Belfast is in Northern Ireland. The poem starts with the word “suddenly” i think it is a good way to start a poem like this as by using the word suddenly it tells the reader that something is about to happen. The word suddenly is also telling the reader that the poem is starting in the middle of something, as the poem starts by saying “Suddenly as the riot squad moves in” this must show something big has happened before for the riot squad to be moving in as the first line of the poem, this might confuse the reader as they wouldn’t know what is going on but it will make the reader want to read on and want to know what has happened. Going on to the stanzas, the stanzas are structured in weird ways as a long stanza is followed up by a short one and sometimes the stanza is only one word. The word confetti might confuse the reader as confetti is normally used at parties etc. but here in the confetti it has nuts, bolts, nails, car-keys and the protesters might be throwing it as the police to make the confetti. Confetti goes up then comes back down and so do bombs and in Northern Ireland they used to use bombs so i think that bombs were used in this piece of conflict.

Semantic fields

a semantic field is a set of words grouped semantically (that is, by meaning), referring to a specific subject. In the first part of the novel there is not much tension but it slowly builds up especially when Atticus represents Tom Robinson in court and this causes so much anger as Atticus ( the most respected and best lawyer) is representing a black person in court. The white community know that Tom Robinson was innocent but still said he was guilty.

How Harper Lee ridicules the white community?

At the start of chapter 22 (page 234) no one thought that Atticus could do it but further on in the chapter (page 238) Miss Maudie says “I thought, Atticus Finch won’t win, he can’t win, but he’s the only man in these parts who can keep a jury out so long in a case like that. And I thought to myself, well, we’re making a step -it’s just a baby-step, but it’s a step.” This shows there has been progress as it actually comes into a persons head that Atticus could do it. I think that Maycomb county especially the White community were scared that Atticus might just do it as the jury is taking so long. Also on page 238 it says “Did it ever strike you that Judge Taylor naming Atticus to defend that boy was no accident? That Judge Taylor might have had his reasons for naming him?” Harper Lee writing this suggests that even Judge Taylor thought this was a bit wrong and wanted it to be a fair jury. On page 239 Bob Ewell stopped in front of Atticus and spat in his face, and told him he’d get him if it took the rest of his life. This shows Bob Ewell was adamant that Tom Robinson raped his daughter Mayella Ewell when he knows himself that Tom Robinson didn’t rape Mayella and Mayella went on to Tom but failed so he wants Tom in prison for in the end no reason at all or maybe his daughter told him otherwise but he knows she is lying.

To kill a Mockingbird-Character

Scout in my opinion is probably the most important character in To kill A Mocking Bird as she is the narrator after all. In different parts of the book it is her as the narrator when she is younger and other parts when she is older. She is very smart like the time she knew how to read before going to school and her tutor/teacher wasn’t happy that maybe she is smarter than her and already knows how to read. I think Scout is who she is because of the way Atticus (her dad) has raised her as he doesn’t really do what most parents do like always tell their kids off or mature them he just talks to them.

Atticus is probably as important if not more important than Scout as the story is based around him and the controversy of him defending a black person in court. As he is a calm, intelligent and his admirable behavior he is respected by everyone in Maycomb. From what i could tell from the book most people look up to him and go to him when they are in trouble. As 90% of people in Maycomb are racist they were not happy at all that he agreed to defend a black person in court. From what i could tell from the book i don’t think he cared that people were talking about him and bad mouthing him that he is defending a black person in court as whenever his children told him he didn’t mind it.

The curious incident of the dog in the Night-Time-ANTI HERO

The curious incident of the Night-Time is about Christopher, a fifteen-year-old boy with an autistic spectrum condition, lives with his father; he explains that his mother, Judy, died two years ago. He discovers the dead body of Wellington, the neighbor’s dog, speared by a garden fork. Mrs. Shears, Wellington’s owner, calls the police, and Christopher comes under suspicion. When a policeman touches him, he hits the policeman, and is arrested, then released with a police caution. He decides to investigate the dog’s death, despite his father’s orders to stay out of other people’s business. However, he is severely limited by his fears and difficulties when interpreting the world around him. Throughout his adventures, Christopher records his experiences in a book: a “murder mystery novel”. During his investigation, Christopher meets people whom he has never before encountered, even though they live on the same street, including the elderly Mrs. Alexander, who informs Christopher that his mother had an affair with Mr. Shears and had been with him for a long time.
Ed, his father, discovers the book and confiscates it from Christopher, after a brief fight between them. While searching for the confiscated book, Christopher uncovers a trove of letters which his mother wrote to him, dated after her supposed death, which his father has also hidden. He is so shocked by his father lying about his mother’s death that he is unable to move, curls up on the bed, vomits and groans for several hours until his father returns home. Ed realizes that Christopher has read the letters and cleans him up. He then confesses that he had indeed lied about Judy’s death and also that it was he who killed Wellington, stating that it was a mistake resulting from his anger after a heated argument with Mrs. Shears. Christopher, having lost all trust in his father and fearing that Ed might try to kill him since he had already killed the dog, runs away.
I think Christopher Broone is an Anti-Hero because he isn’t really skilled at much except for being probably smarter than his teachers, I also think he is an Anti-Hero because even though the owner a convictional hero like most he just tries to do the right thing and he isn’t trying to be a hero I think he is just trying to prove that he did not do it and so when he finds out who did it he will prove it to the owner who did it and that he did not.

Diary of a wimpy kid- Anti Hero

I am writing about a boy called Greg Heffley who is in a series of books called The Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, It is a series on a boy called Greg who is an unpopular and undersized middle-school aged boy. He is a good kid at heart who genuinely wants to do well, but he can be selfish, lazy, greedy, rude, and arrogant. Throughout the series, his schemes to gain popularity in his middle school, attract girls, and acquire money always backfire. In the book he is often depicted as wearing a white T-shirt with black shorts, and having short dark hair with three flicks at the top. Greg has two brothers one who is called Manny and he is 3 years old, Manny often gets to do what he wants when he wants and if he does something bad his parents (Frank Heffley and Susan Heffley) don’t notice it and will often blame Greg for not looking after him properly if he does do something bad. He also has an older brother called Rodrick (17) who often bullies him and gets him in to trouble at times for no reason.
He has an on and off best friend and he takes part in Greg’s schemes, and is sometimes a victim of Greg’s manipulation and deception. The two have a very complicated relationship, as Greg sometimes takes advantage of Rowley, and his own schemes fail due to Rowley’s idiotic behavior and stupidity. Rowley’s parents view Greg as a bad influence on their son, mostly the father, because of Greg’s brashness and habit for getting himself and Rowley into trouble.
Greg rarely learns from his ill-fated mistakes and continues to scheme and plot for his various goals. An awkward, unpopular, eccentric schoolmate named Fregley, whose many oddities disgust those around him, including Greg, try to distance them from Fregley. But he won’t leave Greg alone. Greg is also noted for having many attractions to girls throughout the series, most notably a girl named Holly Hills but that never quite works out.
Greg is an Anti-Hero in my opinion because he has everything an Anti-Hero needs like he is the main character; he lacks all the qualities a hero has like having morality and idealism. An Anti-Hero is typically clumsy and Greg is very clumsy like the times he fell in to a fire alarm when he fell asleep. An Anti-Hero is unskilled as well and if you read the book you will know that Greg Heffley has no talents apart from maybe being good at one game on his play station. One thing he is not is unsolicited he is very lazy and does nothing apart from watch TV and does no exercise.
